At Solvikens Preschool in Sweden, play meets purpose in this thoughtfully designed outdoor learning and activity space. Created in close collaboration with the preschool team and tailored to their educational vision, this project delivers an enriching and inspiring environment where children grow through movement, imagination, and exploration.
The centerpiece of the playground is a castle-themed play structure, featuring towering wooden turrets, slides, climbing walls, and rope tunnels — inviting young adventurers to engage in fantasy and roleplay. The design cleverly combines physical challenge with creative storytelling.
Around the central structure, the space flows into a variety of natural play elements, including:
Obstacle courses made of wooden beams, stepping logs, and ropes, supporting balance and coordination
Climbing nets, bridges, and swings designed for group interaction and gross motor development
A dedicated toddler area with smaller towers, slides, and sensory features
Carefully selected natural materials, soft synthetic turf, and sandbox areas for safe and tactile exploration
Open spaces that double as learning zones, including shaded areas for outdoor classroom sessions
The entire layout encourages open-ended play, independent discovery, and safe risk-taking – while reflecting Solvikens Preschool commitment to sustainability and holistic child development.
